Montana Cancer Control Coalition

Welcome to the Montana Cancer Control Coalition (MTCCC)

What is the MTCCC?

The MTCCC is a statewide collaborative effort of individuals and organizations working together to reduce the overall burden of cancer for Montanans, through the development and implementation of Montana's Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan. The MTCCC was formed in 2003 when concerned stakeholders from throughout Montana came together to address issues across the cancer continuum from prevention and early detection to survivorship. Utilizing a coordinated and integrated approach to controlling cancer, the MTCCC strives to ensure better quality of life and enhance the odds of survivorship through prevention, early detection and state-of-the-art cancer care.

Spring Statewide Meeting—Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan Update

The MTCCC Spring Meeting was held May 6, 2010 in Billings. This year’s format for the meeting specifically focused on the update process for the 2011-2016 Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Plan.  With over 80 participants in attendance, all of the MTCCC Implementation Teams and Committees were able to meet face to face and participants were able to devote chunks of time to the revision process.  Additionally, the newly created Provider Advisory Group met with 14 attendees to hear a presentation by state epidemiologist Dr. Carol Ballew. Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the Bette Bohlinger Leadership Award by Bette and John Bohlinger’s daughters Jan Osbourne and Jolynn Sommers to Billings’s oncologist Dr. Tom Purcell.

More in depth information about the meeting can be found in the May 2010 Working Together Newsletter. Presentations from the meeting are listed under the Statewide Meetings tab.

CDC Grant Received for Colorectal Cancer Screenings and Outreach

The Montana Cancer Control Program has received a grant from the CDC for outreach education and screening of colorectal cancer.  The grant-funded program will begin in January 2010.  The focus will be reaching all Montanans who are 50 or older with the important message of the need to be screened for colorectal cancer and assisting those underinsured and uninsured with paying for the actual screening tests.  Questions regarding this grant can be directed to Mark Wamsley, Program Manager of the Montana Cancer Screening Program, at (406) 444-0063 or mwamsley@mt.gov.

Our Mission:

  • To reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality in Montana through a collaborative partnership of private and public individuals and organizations.
  • To develop, implement, promote, and advocate for a statewide, coordinated, integrated approach to control cancer for all Montanans.
  • To ensure quality of life through prevention, early detection, treatment, research, rehabilitation, and palliation.

What does the MTCCC do?

We are currently in the fifth year of implementation of the Montana CCC plan. Concerned stakeholders from throughout Montana continue to work on the goals and objectives of the plan, and are determined to prevent and control cancer.
